Tom's back with his sophomore record 'Template for Love' and is taking it around the country with a brand-new band. He's stoked to be joined in Wellington by local dream-pop band French for Rabbits and songwriter Louisa Nicklin.
For his new album Tom steps away from the acoustic sound of his debut into more varied territories, filled with lush string arrangements, jangly 60's style riffs, dark soundscapes and crunchy electric guitars.
Again recorded at Ben Edwards' studio in Lyttelton, Template for Love features a wonderful group of musicians. Dave Khan, who helped produce, put together a band with his mates Gus Agars, Ben Woolley and Dan Luscombe. They managed to sneak a couple of weeks out of their touring schedule with Marlon Williams and Dan flew over from Melbourne to join the party.
The album has everything - energetic folk-rockers, sardonic ballads, social commentary and achingly open love songs.
"It became a collection of disparate reflections: on the chaos of desire, on the power of music, on zombies and creation myths and glass ceilings, on lust and admiration, on generational rifts, on a foolish but necessary optimism."
