Making his mark on the Australian music scene, Genesis Owusu is continually delivering his own ever-changing and unique style of hip-hop that showcases both his artistic versatility and poetic approach - At just 18 years of age he's a young rapper with a very bright future.
Hot off the heels of his head turning performance in support of Aminé at the Studio we're excited to have Genesis Owusu back in New Zealand for his first ever headline club tour
Noting a long list of influences on his including Jimi Hendrix, Frank Ocean, Miles Davis, Wu-Tang Clan and Kanye West, Genesis Owusu takes inspiration from an expansive range of sources to create laid back, jazz-infused-jams, and experimental genre-bending hardcore hip-hop, which was showcased in his debut 2017 release, “CARDRIVE EP”. Owusu now continues his tradition of progressiveness, boasting collaborations with members of the Grammy-nominated band Hiatus Kaiyote.
His “Sideways” single, produced by Simon Mavin and Perrin Moss of Hiatus Kaiyote, was added to Triple J’s high rotation after director Richard Kingsmill awarded the track 4-and-a-half stars out of 5. The single premiered on Okayplayer and since then, garnered international attention from websites such as The FADER and C-Heads.
